Hazel R. Groves, 78, of Crawfordsville, a retired teacher, died at home at 9 a.m. Thursday after a long illness. Mrs. Groves taught most of her professional life in the New Market High School. She attended Western College and was graduated from Indiana University. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Athens Chapter, Order of Eastern Star; Dorothy Q. Chapter DAR, Delta Zeta Sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma, honorary teachers sorority and Indiana Teachers Association. She was born near Clarks Hill on Oct. 6, 1895, a daughter of Porter and Anna Peake. She was the widow of Arnett R. Groves, secretary and trust officer of Elston Bank & Trust Co. Surviving is a brother, Ross Peake of Lafayette and two nieces, Mrs. David Stevenson of Mulberry and Mrs. James Peake of Providence, RI. She was preceded in death by a brother, Milton Peake. Memorial services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Hunt & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Little and the Rev. P.J. Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today. The family asks that flowers be omitted.--waw
